I SEE You

Today we're pulling from the movies, specifically Avatar. If you've seen it, you likely remember the line between Jake and Neytiri -- "I see you."

Why does that statement have such impact? I'll tell you why. It refers to so much more than the physical. In fact, in this instance, it's referring to the something so much deeper than what is seen by the eye. It's the recognition of one's inner Being, their spirit, their essence.

Anyone with eyesight can physically see people. Those who are still, who value you, see your true Being.

In reading Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth one of his subjects was "The Inner Child." It gives the example of the relationship between parent and child. Parents easily recognize their child's form, but they don't always recognize their Being. As Tolle points out, these children who are not seen, can feel both hurt and resentment. This can be something that builds up over the years. But it proves yet again how complicated we are -- how multifaceted.

While our physical needs are met by loving parents, when they are not accepting of our life's calling and passions, it actually creates a "pain body -- and it can take a long time to work through this. They are not seeing the real you.

Ironically, I was only recently made aware of this aspect, but when I read this by Tolle, it makes logical sense on every level.

So how can we heal if we feel that we are not seen for who we are?

Accept what is. It doesn't mean you have to stay in the relationship. In fact, if the other party is closed to seeing you, it will disintegrate naturally -- either by your choice or theirs.  You'll find that you have no draw to be around them and nothing in common. You may even find you have nothing to say out of fear of being judged. Without communication, a relationship dies.

See others and surround yourself with those who see you.

Journal your feelings.

What has helped you to overcome these feelings?
