Who are we and why are we here? These have been the questions before us as
humans for eons!
As our life journey unfolds, our answers to these questions tend
to change based on the roles we play in our lives. We may begin with; I am a son, a daughter, a
student, a teenager, a young adult, an employee, a husband, a wife, a parent…
etc. But; is that truly who we are? Or
are these merely roles we play? This
only leads us to more questions; where do these roles come from and who defines
the criteria or expectations of each role?
How is a son to act? How is a
daughter to act? What costumes do the
characters wear and what is the setting?
Like characters in a play, we didn’t know we auditioned for;
we improvise and automatically react to the lines and roles of our fellow
actors. Our parents, along with
religious and academic teachers in our life give us the “Q’s” we need to fit into
the theme of the play. So now the
questions; what is the theme and who are the writer, director and producer?
This is all well for a while, until we notice the lack of
joy, frustration and even depression that arises when the role we feel forced
to play conflicts with our very heart and soul.
We may wonder how and why did I get cast for this part? And more than that, how do I get to play the
role of “me”, the truth of who I am in this moment and the next?
As we grow, evolve and expand we become more
self-aware. No longer defining our self
by the characters around us but discovering the self character we are really here to play and express in the world. In the beginning, when we recognize a truth
within us which conflicts with the norm, the expectations and the theme of the
play, we may express ourselves in private for fear of criticism and judgement of
the other characters in our play.
Meanwhile, each character is also undergoing their own self discovery process and expressing
themselves in private.
Eventually, after having some practice privately expressing self, we attract supporting characters
for a new play that is naturally unfolding in our life. We find our tribe, our community of
like-minded ones with interests, beliefs and passions similar to ours. We experience, by both receiving and giving
acceptance, love and safety to express ourselves freely. The characters, costumes and scenery of the
play become more enjoyable, exciting and vibrant!
Certainly, the journey to come to this point is riddled with
obstacles, challenges, detours and distractions. Not always easy and not always fun, however,
a journey none the less. A journey of
remembering; remembering we are the writer, director, producer and characters
of our play.
What if we are all of this and none of this? What if we are all individual expressions of
a Divine spark, which flows in, as and through each of us? What if experiencing the roles of who we are not
and who we are, are all perfect? What if
this is all part of our story, our play, our life, this human experience?
What if the role of all of us is the same – that as we experience
our Divine expression, we assist and support others, encouraging them to experience
their individual Divine expression? We
are Shining Souls after all; witnessing, loving and celebrating each Divine
expression!

SHERRY BUIKEMA began learning about energy healing ways and developed a dream. It was a dream of a beautiful place in nature, where friends gather for meditation and self-healing. In 2012, with the help of her very supportive husband, One Place To Be was born. October 2013 saw the first day retreat, with regular retreats going forward. In line with this dream, Sherry has completed her Reiki Masters and Reconnective Healing® training and is assisting others to reconnect with the fullness of their beings on all levels.
